What this actually is,in plain words.
No jargon on this page. If you already know what a Wayland compositor is, you probably want the architecture page instead.
Today you go to the software. Here, the software comes to you.
Every computer you have used works the same way: the work is broken into apps, and you do the joining up. MeghaOS removes that step.
- 01Work out which app does the thing you want.
- 02Find it, open it, wait for it.
- 03Learn where that app hid the feature.
- 04Copy the result into a second app by hand.
- 01Say what you want, in your own words.
- 02The machine works out which tools it needs.
- 03It builds a screen for that specific question.
- 04The screen disappears when you are done with it.
There is no app grid to learn, because there are no apps to open. You get a single place to say what you want, and the screen assembles itself around the answer.
One box, and whatever the answer needs.
This is the first thing you see when you open it. You type; it builds.
Hi there,
Where should we start?
- Create image
- Create music
- Boost my day
- Write anything
Not a paragraph. A thing you can use.
Ask an ordinary question and you get an ordinary answer, laid out, with the parts you might change made changeable. This is drawn by the real thing, running in this page. Only the food is imaginary.
What can I make with what is in the fridge?
Enough for two, about twenty minutes
You have eggs, half an onion, a wedge of hard cheese and yesterday’s bread. That is a frittata and toast.
- Slice the onion thin and soften it in a pan while the grill heats.
- Beat four eggs with most of the cheese and a good amount of pepper.
- Pour it over the onion, leave it alone for three minutes, then grill the top until it sets.
- Toast the bread in whatever fat is left in the pan.
Would make it better
Added to the list you keep, not to anybody’s basket.
Five steps, every time.
From the moment you press enter to the moment a screen appears, the same five things happen. Nothing is hidden; you can watch each step as it runs.
Things worth asking.
What is “an agent”, really?
A program that can decide on its own sequence of steps. A normal program does exactly what its buttons say. An agent is given a goal instead of a button, works out the steps, and runs them (reading a file, doing a calculation, opening a web page), checking with you at the points that matter.
What does “runs on your machine” mean?
The part that does the thinking is installed on your computer, like a word processor is. When you ask it something, the question is answered by your own processor. That is the difference between MeghaOS and a chatbot in a browser tab: the chatbot sends your question to a company’s servers, and we do not need to.
Why does that matter to me?
Two reasons. It works with no internet connection. And your documents, mail and notes stay where they already are. We cannot read them, because they are never sent to us. If you deliberately connect an outside service, that specific data goes there, and only then.
Is this just a chatbot with extra steps?
A chatbot replies with paragraphs. This replies with a working interface: a chart you can hover, a table you can sort, a form you can fill, a running simulation. And it can act: edit a file, send a mail, drive a browser. The answer is the tool, not a description of one.
Where it falls short today.
We would rather you found this out here than an hour after installing it.
It is version 0.1.10.
That is an early number and we mean it. Expect rough edges, expect things to change, and keep backups of anything you care about.
The bundled model is not a big cloud model.
What ships in the box is sized for the oldest machine we support, so it runs anywhere. Point it at a larger model, local or hosted, the moment you want more, and the trade is yours to make rather than ours.
It cannot do everything a person can.
It is good at work with a clear shape: gather this, compare that, refactor these files, draft this. It is not a replacement for judgement, and you should read what it produces.
Three versions. The difference is how deep it goes.
All three give you the same assistant. What changes is how much of the computer underneath is ours, and how much you have to commit. Currently v0.1.10.
MeghaOS for Mac
A normal Mac app. Drag it in, run it, delete it if you do not like it.
Commitment: none
How it worksLayer on LinuxDesktop Environment
Adds the assistant to a Linux computer you already have, keeping everything else.
Commitment: one install
How it worksThe full stackMeghaOS
Replaces the whole operating system. The only version where every safety promise holds.
Commitment: the machine
How it worksNot sure? The editions page compares them line by line.
Easiest way to understand itis to run it.
The Mac version takes about a minute and changes nothing about your computer.
